    I have a bittersweet problem
Back in January I joined Slimming World, no idea still why that particular advert prompted me to go but I'm very glad to.

So far I've lost 2stone and 9lbs, or 37lbs in old money. YAY I'm so pleased

    The bittersweet problem ...

I've shrunk out of my corset.

    aghh!!!

I've loved the corset (Brought from Gallery Serpentine) from the first moment I tried it on, nearly 7 years ago. I can't buy a new one, as I still want to loose an awful lot of weight. I think of all my fat clothes this will be the one I keep, the rest will be used for a ceremonal burning.

Hence the bittersweet feelings, unless someone knows anyone who could alter a corset.

    A little update on life
This weekend I am going to a Cross Stitch GTG with some online friends. Hosted by Kate up in Derbyshire. I'm looking forward to sitting and chatting, whilst people show their amazing WiPs and FOs off. (That is Work in Progress, and Finished Objects for those none stitchers here). But mainly I'm looking forward to seeing my Aunt, whom I'll be staying with on the Friday beforehand.

My Auntie Lynn has had a tough life; she has battled with MS since 1979 and then has been battling with cancer for the last 10 years. She has chosen to stop the Chemotherapy this time however as it was ruining her standard of life, and as it was a case of only adding a few extra months at most at this point on her life. She chooses to have quality over quantity of life, and I can't blame her for that. It does mean however I need to take every opportunity to visit with her.

Talking of her cancer, in just under a month I will find out if I also am a carrier of the BRCA2 gene. (1 of the Brest Cancer genes). I believe I am positive but there is a 50% chance that I might not be. It does worry me that if I am positive I'm at an 80% higher risk of getting Brest Cancer and I am also a much higher risk than the average woman of getting Ovarian Cancer. I would rather know so I can make informed decisions about my future. Dave is great he had attend each of the Genetics Counselling appointments with me. His strength is something I rely on, as I tend to be emotional about things, where as he will look at the facts.

Lovetrix episode 1 Club write up:
[info]beardy and I went to a club for the first time in ages in February. Finally I've got around to writing a report up, prompted by the advers for Lovetrix 2 I saw earlier today.

The evening started with numerous trips around the Watford ring trying to find a suitable car park. Even then we only managed one that said it was closing at midnight. (Apparently the Iceland car park is the best option worth remembering for the Lovetrix in May).

We arrived at the club to find hefty bouncers on the door, but we didn't even get a bag search. Once inside it seems to be a normal if rather empty nightclub. A quick change into my corset later we were off exploring. The dance floor was empty, seemed to be plenty of seating to relax. Even if the music was very loud. Discovered the dungeon lots of delicious Roissey equipment, but the much loved bed wasn't there. Major subbie pout, only to be eased by the site of their delicious rack and lovely memories of New Years Eve’s count down ;) Even more seating within the Dungeon was another plus. Proceeded to explore upstairs, found a deliciously quiet chill out room, which had views of the dance floor and most of the downstairs (including the laser lighting and the porno display.

Friends now arrived, so time was spent chatting and admiring the views of all the corsets on display ;) Before Beardy_ decided it was finally time for me to be allowed a play session. Not that I hadn't used pleading eyes all evening you understand.

The dungeon was much busier now, but as we walked in the rack became free. In no time at all I was tied down and stretched. Became apparent that the background noise and the music meant verbal communication with Beardy was impossible. Which if I'd been playing with anyone else I would have been worried about. The delights of the flogger were shown to my arse in a nice semi floaty way.

Afterwards as we debating tieing the corset back on, the rack was again put immediately to use. We decided the corset might be too restrictive if Beardy wanted to use pegs on my breasts up in the chill out room.

This leads us to the point where evening went down hill rapidly. As we stepped out of the dungeon, the fog and laser display was going full strength, which trigged an asthma attack for me. The first such attack in years, so neither of us had an inhaler. Even removing ourselves back up to the chill out room didn't ease my breathing, so an end to the night was called.

After fond goodbyes to friends, we left the club. Once into the warmth of the car my breathing finally eased, but did leave me feeling sad, as it had been an excellent night called short by unforeseen events, instead of tiredness.

Will we be back in May? Definitely :) we'll just be better prepared, and probably not leave the dungeon hence avoiding the fog.

Another month has gone by without an update. Yes I know I'm bad.

I've started my maths course (MST121 with the OU) and so far I'm really enjoying it. It’s a refreshing change to the Latin which by the way I failed miserably at. I went to my first tutorial on Saturday, things went well an interesting bunch, plus someone from work was there. So I'm hoping to get with her occasionally to go over work with her.

Had a lovely evening on Sunday my sis and her hubby came over for the evening. We've been planning the evening for a few weeks, and I was intending to do a fondue night. We all had a lot of fun; the food went down amazingly well considering I cooked it. (Not that it took much effort to cook; it was just a case of preparing the ingredients before hand during the day then 5-10 minutes in front of the stove).

Stitching wise I had a lovely surprise last night I came 3rd in the small category of Silkweaver.com Stitches Showcase. See here for my entry : GingerBread House by TW Designworks. Unfortunately I don't win any prizes but I was very impressed I placed at all looking at some of the other entries. So I'm feeling very smug and proud of myself.

I've already finished 2 items this year Dragon Dreams'Night time Wizard' and a small (very small) Designer Stitches Piglet card. I'm concentrating on TW Designworks Egyptian Sampler at the moment I would like to finish it for my DBf, for Xmas 2005. We shall see if that is too ambitious or not later in the year.

I'm upset I'm missing a GTG with my stitchy pals this weekend in Bath, but as I have a tutorial for Maths again on Saturday I can't do both, and the OU course has to take priority. *Sigh*

I've signed up for a City and Guilds Level 1 Bead Weaving course starting on the 23/2/05 I have no idea what to expect, but I'm looking forward to it. If for nothing else a qualification in doing something I love is such a rare thing to achieve.

    Limited Luxuries
If you had to choose between the services of a cook, maid, chauffer, or masseuse — absolutely free, but only for a year — which one would it be? Why?

My initial thoughts would be a chauffer as I hate to drive. But I know if I didn't drive for a year I would probably never drive again. So I would opt for a maid. Dave and I aren't the most tidiest of people. Yet we do enjoy a clean and tidy house for the few days we can keep it like that. Maybe if I had a house that was very clean and tidy for a year I would be able to keep it up for myself afterwards, as I'd become used to it.

    Stepping on Ducks jokes
Three women die together in an accident
    and go to heaven.

When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!"

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St.. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw.

St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.

She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"

The guy says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

    The Stitcher's Five!!!
    The Stitcher's Five!!!

    Favourite Themes:

    1. What is your favourite theme to stitch (i.e. primitive, fantasy, samplers, etc)

Dragons are a must, cutsy and intricate, not that I have many completed at the moment on my wall but most fantasy will do. Followed closely by seasonal stuff, xmasy and Halloweeny are biggies.

    2. Has this always been your favourite theme (i.e as your tastes change)?

Well the first patterns I was able to choose myself wih fantasy related.

    3. How many WIPs/UFOS do you have currently in this theme?

hmm well there is Teresa Wentzler's 'Unicorn' and 'Tempest' , Dragon Dreams 'Dragon Virtues Afghan', 'Night Time Wizard' and 'Fairy Tale Sampler',

    4. And how many finished?

Not enough, and none kept for myself apart from a small Dragon Dreams 'Tales of Wonder'

    5. Name three favourite designs in your overall favourite theme.

Teresa Wentzler - TWDesignworks 'The Castle'
Jennifer Aikman-Smith - Dragon Dreams Virtues Afghan

The Friday Five (a little late
    The Friday Five

    1. What do you do for a living? I work on a computer helpdesk that supports a large multinational corporate bank.

    2. What do you like most about your job?
The time I can spend surfing, and the proximity to home.

    3. What do you like least about your job?

Tough one, as there is so much I dislike about my job, from the colleagues, down to what I actually do. The least liked is probably the call scripting and the continuous assessment that is done, for no practical reason. Ok there has to be a standard on how the desk as a whole treats each user, fine I understand that, but to give us grades on how poor/well on such unimportant parts of the work is just demoralising. It doesn't promote the team spirit the management hope, I have been doing similar jobs for 6 + years and I know my customer services skills are high, so let me get on with it.

    4. When you have a bad day at work its usually because _____...

When I've been told I'm doing a bad job because I had a poorly graded call, so made to feel worthless by management. (Never mind the fact I take the most amount of calls in the dept).

    5. What other career(s) are you interested in? Librarian type careers, I would be studying for it, but we can't afford to send me on the course yet.

    Stitching Update
I have been stitching this weekend on my Dragon Dreams Afghan. There will be a little fudging done on the compassion dragon, but otherwise looking good. I have high hopes of finishing this quickly but doubt I will. I just want it to be a nice warm blanket already, as I will be backing it with a deep blue fleece fabric. In my house of no heating its something I need done soon.

I didn't manage to finish Dave's valentines pressie serves me right for trying to do it in secret, he loves what I have done so far. So I'll spend the time charting the wording I want, without the need to rush it.

Tempest didn't get finished in the TW stitch along, but I did make some progress.

Thats about all the stitching I've done in the last month.

A New Year, a new want to share my thoughts on things to the world. So dusting off the cobwebs, welcome back to Salster's place.

I'm back at work this is the 3rd day, so far its been tiring but otherwise ok. I was off for so long due to sickness and holidays that it was a real shock to the system to be back. But as so little has changed, same hideous people, same hideous controls. I wonder why I bother to come in. Then I remember its all about the money. To live the way I am, I need money to keep on top of the bills. It certainly isn't something anyone sane would do working here.

Although my official course start date is not until 1/2/04 I've started my Latin. So far it appears to be sinking in, but I'm only on the repetitive beginning exercises. I'm enjoying it, if only I wasn't so tired after work.

Stitching wise, I've started Sam's 2004 Xmas pressie, a fat little man in chef's whites; I hope that by the end of the year he will think of himself as one. But I so want to start stitching one of the corsets for me. I spent a while looking at them last night and would love to do the scarlet one. Its just the blue one hasn’t been done by many other people so could be fun to do. Need to find a nice fabric and then do a floss toss on it to see if it works. I need to ponder the question do I stitch Dave a Valentines again this year? Or do I surprise him?
